This beautifully crafted steel cauldron impresses with its high-quality workmanship and is ideal for a wide range of historical settings. A cooking pot like this was indispensable in the Middle Ages, whether at the evening campfire or in a busy camp kitchen.
Fire pots and hanging pots of this kind were essential items in any medieval camp kitchen. With their sturdy construction and rounded shape, they provided ample space for preparing foods such as soups and stews, or drinks such as mead, for large groups of people.
As it is crafted in an authentic style, the individual metal sheets are not welded together but riveted exclusively. Consequently, the individual metal sheets can be subjected to intense heat, which means that the pot does not remain 100% airtight. To make it watertight, the pot must be fired. The historically correct method of firing, or sealing, using oatmeal is suitable for this purpose. With this method, the starch from the oats settles into the cracks and crevices and hardens there, creating a watertight seal.
This camp pot is made out of several overlapping steel sheets, which are securely connected with strong rivets. It features two riveted, forged hanging loops and a hand-forged carrying handle with artistically twisted ends. The handle allows the pot to be easily suspended from a tripod, making it possible to adjust the height over the fire and regulate the heat effectively.
This medieval cauldron is purely decorative and is not suitable for cooking or dyeing. While it fits especially well in Viking Age reenactments, it is equally suitable for representations of the High and Late Middle Ages, the Renaissance, or even the early modern period.
