In the Middle Ages, the cloak was a staple garment. Generally worn by the common people as a protection from the elements, cloaks could be of many different lengths, hooded or without hood, and came in a variety of styles or patterns. There were numerous ways to fasten this particular type of coat or cape – with a fibula (brooch), a small chain, ties or, later on, buttons.
Our body-length, hooded cloak is made from plain cotton and closes at the front with a single wooden button and loop.
We would like to point out that the cotton fabric is not waterproofed. However, it can easily be treated with a water-repellent spray to resist light rain.
How to find the right size:
To determine the size you need, please refer to your child’s body height (for a 128 cm tall child, size 128 should be ordered).
Please note:
Delivery includes the cloak only! The dress and the accessories pictured above are available separately in our online shop.
As authentic as possible, as modern as necessary!
This medieval cloak is part of Battle-Merchant’s line of period clothing and medieval garments for men, women and children. From the first sketch to the last stitch, this garment was planned, designed and handcrafted with particular attention to detail. Our clothes are modeled (sometimes accurately, sometimes less so) on historical examples, grave finds and original museum pieces where they exist. We always endeavour to keep the necessary adjustments to today’s standards, e.g. in terms of size and manufacturing process, to a minimum. Just see for yourself!
